2026 WCHA Calendar

2026 Washington County Historic Picture Calendar

The 2026 Historic Picture Calendar celebrates the many historic churches throughout Washington County. Some are still standing and are still a vibrant center of the community; other structures have been replaced or abandoned. They reflect settlement patterns from city to rural, east to west and the many ethnic groups who came and settled. Not only were churches “a good drawing card for town growth” as Blair asserted, but they also sprang up in farming communities like rural Arlington, Fontanelle, Orum and Admah. The settlers who gathered in these buildings shared common values, spiritual beliefs and ethnic traditions. Many of these congregations and buildings survived and thrived, adding and modernizing over the years. Some built new churches when they outgrew the original. Some split while others joined together, or they completely disappeared, only leaving a country cemetery to mark their earlier existence.
